How to Solve "Double Variant Values"

Description

In TB.One, all of a product's articles (variants) must be unique. That means that all of a product's articles must differ in at least one of their variant dimensions. If two articles share identical values for all variant dimensions, they are considered to be identical and cause this error.

EXAMPLE:
Your product's articles differ from each other by size and color (these are their variant dimensions). If two of the articles have the size value "M" and the color value "Black", the "Double Variant Values" error occurs.

ATTENTION:
This is a severe error that blocks exports to all channels! Since the SolutionCenter only shows channel-specific export errors, it is not listed there.

The error is shown directly at the product:

Go to "Products > Product list".

Open the affected product.

Switch to the tab "Article list".

Affected articles are highlighted in red.

Possible Causes

1. A Variant Dimension was Deleted

A previously existing variant dimension was deleted (for example, through an import process). The remaining variant dimensions are no longer sufficient to keep articles unique. The duplicate articles are no longer exported to any marketplaces.

EXAMPLE:
You sell a t-shirt. To keep this example simple, we'll assume you offer it with just two variant dimensions, each with two different values:

Color (Blue, Black)

Size (M, L)

This results in four unique articles. Accidentally deleting the "Color" variant dimension leaves you with two pairs of identical articles. These duplicate articles are not valid.

Articles After "Color" is Deleted

2. A New Article Was Added

You have added a new article to the product that has the same variant dimension values as an existing article. This creates duplicate articles. Both articles are no longer exported to any marketplaces.

3. Articles Were Moved Between Products

You have moved an article from one product to another. Depending on the articles in question, this may cause the target product to contain articles with identical variant dimension values. These articles are no longer exported to any marketplaces.

Solution

To resolve this error, ensure that all articles/variants within the product differ in at least one variant dimension.

ATTENTION:
Simply deactivating the affected duplicate articles will not resolve the error or enable the other articles to be exported. To resolve the error, the product must not contain articles with identical variant dimension values, irrespective of their activation state.

1. Check Variant Dimensions

Open the affected product by selecting its designation in the product list under "Articles > Product list".

Switch to the "Article list" tab.

Verify that all necessary variant dimensions (for example, color and size) are present.

If a variant dimension is missing, review recent imports and adjust the import file to include all necessary dimensions.

If a variant dimension is missing, but you do not import product data, you can add the variant dimension directly on the "Article list" tab.

2. Check Moved Articles

Check whether articles were moved from another product into the affected product.

Switch to the "Functions" tab to trace the articles' origins.

Do not delete moved articles! Instead: Move the articles back to their original product if possible. Use the "Move article(s)" option on the "Functions" tab.

3. Identify Articles that were Imported Incorrectly

If articles were imported into the wrong product, move them to the correct product. Only delete articles if you are certain they haven’t been exported to any channel and won’t be needed in the future.

4. Next steps and prevention

Regularly review your imports to ensure completeness and consistency of variant dimensions.

Document changes made to products, especially when moving or deleting articles.

Avoid removing dimensions without checking their impact on existing articles.
